This article was inspired by Sage Lewis who made one statement in particular, which I think is worth reflecting on a bit:

I think that most online business who have done well for themselves are those who for the most part have stayed away from all those “Hyped-Up” fire-sale, push-bottom wonder solutions most of us have fallen for. I for one will confess to have fallen for a few of them and not only ended up losing time, and effort, but money as well.

So how can you survive without getting your traffic from Google?

The all mighty “G” has been telling you how to do this from the very beginning, and now have come up with two changes in their bot algorithms that have drastically impacted a segment of online marketers. 

First was Panda. The Google Panda update  targeted “low quality” sites. These sites not only had low quality spunned articles which where created without any concern for their readability but they also had links to other sites which for the most part where stuffed with ads and little if any valuable content for their readers.

The Solution

I remember when most of us migrated to Twitter, and Facebook because of the promised made by certain Gurus. Principally, that we would get “server melting traffic”. Remember those accolades? Although it was just Hype, the truth is that the concept was good, and still worth including in your traffic getting strategies. However; the way some Internet Marketers went about it created defense strategy adopted by Twitter which penalized everyone who had adopted an automated strategy to building followers.

After using Twitter for a few months I managed to get a few of my Twitter accounts up to over 50K followers. I was not following the spamming strategies used by many, but because I was using automation my accounts were suspended. I can not tell you how dreadful this was for me. Truth be told, there is not “New” business model. Just a change in strategy or focus. So as you can see, Content Curation is the art of collecting information from a variety of online sources and weaving the information in such a ways that you can explain and or expand on a topic while using other people’s content. But you must make certain to give them credit for it.

The concept of giving credit cor content created by someone else is not new.

If you go to an article directory like eZinearticles.com and copy one of the articles they are hosting you have to keep the author credit. In other words you just can’t copy the content of the article and re-publish it on your site without giving credit to the author of the article. But as you have seen so far in this article I have use content from other sites while still giving the originator of the content credit. This is fine and helps your readers have additional sources they can go to and learn more about the subject you are writing.

So no matter how you go about it, the truth is that if your site is not ranking on the Search Engine’s front page, you are not going to get traffic to your site.

That is a simple equation. You got to get traffic to get sales, but in order to get traffic you must find a way to get your site on the front page of the Search Engines. So how exactly do you do that? I mean, it almost sounds like the problem most people starting out on their own encounter; you have to have credit to get credit, but how do you get the credit if you do not have any?

Backlinks = Front Page Ranking

In order to get your site on the first page of any search engine, the search engine must see votes of confidence given to your site by other sites. It sounds political but it is not. If, say, you are competing for the keyword phrase “Arm Chair Profits” and there are several sites which talk about making money from home which have a link to your site, then that is a vote of confidence. We refer to these votes of confidence as Baklinks.

If you have more Backlinks than your competitors then you will place higher on the front page of the search engine results.

Sounds simple enough right? And this is exactly what those Hyped up sales pitches want you to believe. The principal is true, but the practice is not as simple as getting a “push-button” software that will make you instantly rich over night. No Sir!

The single most common mistake made by most Affiliate Marketing beginners is thinking that all they need is automation to make them their money. Now, there are a few plugins which will assist you in creating an article which meets the most significant Search Engine Optimization principals, but you must do the work; it will not take care of all SEO for you.

Therefore; you must make certain that you are following certain proven SEO principals which will help the search engines know what your article, and site are all about. Let me list some of the common mistakes you need to avoid:

1. Keyword not in domain name.
2. Keyword not in site description.
3. No <H1> tag with your Keyword in the article.
4. No <H2> tag with your Keyword in the article.
5. No <H3> tag with your Keyword in the article.
6. No related keywords (LSI)  in your article.
7. No decoration given to your keyword in the article.

Now these are but a few of the most commonly over looked SEO techniques. Are there more? Sure there are, but these are the ones which the SEs look for to best classify and categorize your article.

Let’s look at some of them in more detail….

Continuing with our keyword example of Arm Chair Profits, your article needs to have a section heading containing that keyword within the <H1> tag. Following is an example of the code and how it looks to a visitor:

Next is the <h2> tag. You will also want to include your keyword on a section of your article as a heading. Following is an example of the code and how it looks to a visitor:

The next tag I will go over is the <h3> tag. This tag is also used as a paragraph heading, and it should contain you keyword as well. Following is an example of the code and how it looks to a visitor:

Finally there is the acronym LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Wikipedia gives this very scientific explanation which gave me a migraine when I first read it. Bottom line; LSI is a keyword which describes another keyword. By way of example; if your site was about apple. The search engines would be wondering if your site is about a fruit or an electronic gadget like Apple Computer.

So make sure to sprinkle several LSI keywords in order to help the Search Engines know what your article, and site are all about.

Now, lets go back to the equation:

Backlinks = Ranking = Traffic = Sales

I have already defined what Backlinks are, and because of the confidence factor they bestow on your site your article will rank on the front page of the search engines. This results in more traffic to your site which should result in more sales. The question you are probably asking yourself right about now is how do you get more backlinks than your competitors?

Well believe it or not, this is very easy, and simple to do. I have created backlinks to my sites both manually (which sucks) and automatically (which I love).

I’m not going to bore you with the manual process, because to be quite honest, I almost gave up this whole Internet Marketing idea after just a week of manually building backlinks to my first site. So we are going to focus on one piece of software which will take care of this for you.

There is a program called SENukeX which has been steadily creating backlinks for all my sites on total auto-pilot. Now, don’t get me wrong – this is not a “Get Rich Quick Push Button Software Solution.” You will have to do some work to get it ready, but considering the long-term benefits, a few minutes per site is nothing compare to hours of tedious search.

Let me explain what I’m talking about…

As you remember, earlier on this article I stated that you want to get backlinks from sites which have content related to yours. I said “…if you are competing for the keyword phrase “Arm Chair Profits” and there are several sites which talk about making money from home which have a link to your site, then that is a vote of confidence.” Remember?

So how exactly do you find those sites? Well if you are doing this process manually, you would use your favorite search engine like Google or Bing, etc., to find such sites.

Here is and example…

Lets say that I wanted to find the sites which contain the phrase “make money from home”. I would use Google and in the search window I would type the following search parameter:

inurl:blog inurl:blog “niche kw” “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in”

This would generate the following results:

Now all I have to do is visit each of those blogs and leave a comment which contributes to the article created by the author. This is important; you want to leave a comment which other readers would find interesting. Perhaps you can add some information which the author did not include, or you can share your personal experience with the subject matter covered by the article. In other words, don’t just say “Hi, this is a great article.” Actually, any time I see such a comment in one of my blogs I do not approve it, and I delete it.
